Focaccia Bread(using only 6 ingredients )

Focaccia or flat bread is our favorite when it comes to Italian dinner evenings - I have heard in many places Italian restaurants serve bread just to stop hungry customers from creating a scene lol -

helping your hunger pangs or not Focaccia is a great addition to our flatbread collection., it's versatile and easy to bake hope you enjoy too


Ingredients

  • 4 cups all purpose flour

  • 2 tsp sugar

  • 2 1/4 tsp instant dry yeast

  • 1 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 1/3 cups warm water

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Toppings (optional)

  • Tomatoes

  • black olives

  • rosemary dried

  • 2 tsp sea salt

  • 1 tsp chilli powder

Method

  • In a large bowl, mix together the flour, dry yeast and salt

  • Pour in the water and olive oil then mix everything together with a spoon until the mixture comes together. Now transfer to a platform.


  • Knead with your hands for about 5-10 minutes until smooth dough forms.

  • If the dough is too sticky add more flour but try to use less flour for soft focaccia.

  • Shape the dough to round shape and place it in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover the bowl with a towel and place it in a warm location.

  • let it rise for 1 hour or until the dough has doubled in size.


  • Place the dough on to a lightly floured surface and roll it out into a rectangle it should be 1/2 inch thick.

  • Place it in a oiled baking tin/sheet and stretch it into the corners with your hands. Cover the tin/sheet , and let it sit for another 20 minutes.

  • Preheat the oven to 400 deg F .

  • Press deep holes into the focaccia with the back of a wooden spoon. Then press the tomatoes, olives and dried rosemary into the bread.

  • Now drizzle 1-2 tbsp of olive oil evenly all over the top of the dough, sprinkle with salt and chilli powder.


  • Bake for 20 minutes, until slightly golden and cooked through.

  • Slice and serve it with a drizzle of olive oil.
